BOOKING U.S. CAPITOL TOURS

A small number of same day tickets to tour the U.S. Capitol are available to groups who wait in a public line. Tickets are issued on a first come first serve basis, and the wait in line is quite lengthy and likely to interfere with your other scheduled attractions. For your convenience, we have outlined the procedures for obtaining a US Capitol tour and have created a congressional database to assist you in obtaining a private tour appointment for your group.

Whether you have a tour or not, your group may visit the brand new Capitol Visitor Center which is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. This majestic building will give your group a skylight view of the Capitol dome, and offers films, exhibits, and tours, about how Congress works, how this Capitol was built, and how citizens can participate in our representative democracy.

To visit areas of the Capitol beyond the Capitol Visitor Center, you must make a reservation in advance. Since tour schedules can fill up quickly, it is advisable to book your tour well in advance of your visit. Additionally, you may want to seek assistance from your parents as many times one of the parents may have a personal connection with your representatives and may be able to arrange a tour and photo opportunity with the Senator or Representative.

There are several ways to book a tour of the Capitol.

The preferred method is to go through the offices of your Representative or Senators. Many Congressional offices offer their own staff-led tours to constituent student groups and most can assist you in booking a general tour as well. Use the buttons below to locate and contact your Representative or Senate office for a tour.

Congress Contacts House of Reps. Contacts sample letter

While most offices have an online form, it is our experience the best way to ensure a guided tour is to follow-up the online request by calling the congressional tour coordinator and notifying them of your request. You should follow up that call by sending the request in writing. For your convenience, a sample request letter can be found by clicking the button above.

If you are unable to obtain a tour through your Representative or Senator, you may also be able to arrange one directly through the U.S. Capitol Visitor Services using an online reservation system. Click the button below to register your tour group and reserve your tour date and time. BOOK GROUP

***If your group is not a full group of 35 or more, please make your appointments for 51 students and 6 adults to include another group you may end up combining with on your tour.***

Request a written confirmation and send a copy to your Tour Coordinator.

Please also make sure your group is familiar with the no backpack rules and other behavioral guidelines for such a tour. If you have a participant with a disability, please review these guidelines as well.
